Women's Test cricket began in 1934–35 with a three-match series between Australia Women and England Women, which the visitors won 2–0 with one match drawn. England Women then went on to New Zealand where they played a single Women's Test, which they won, against New Zealand Women. Since then, there has been a steady growth in international women's cricket which has accelerated since 2005 when the International Women's Cricket Council (IWCC) merged into the International Cricket Council (ICC). There are now seven Women's Test nations with the original three having been joined by India Women, Netherlands Women, South Africa Women and West Indies Women.
