The first team is currently (2019–20) a member of the Bundesliga, which is the highest tier of football competition in Germany. Schalke have been one of the most successful teams in German football. They have won the national championship seven times, but the last one was in 1958 and they have never won the Bundesliga, which began in 1963–64. They have won the DFB-Pokal five times, most recently in 2010–11. Schalke have had one European success when they won the UEFA Cup in 1997.
