Welcome Page

Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at CZ:Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list (do join!) and the blog. Please also join the workgroup mailing list(s) that concern your particular interests. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any constable for help, too. Me, for instance! Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun! D. Matt Innis 21:17, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

About aromatics

I think a separate, more comprehensive, stand-alone article about aromatics would be a good idea. However, I don't think it should be named "Aromaticity" ... instead I suggest naming it "Aromatic hydrocarbons". "Aromaticity" or "aromatics" could be construed as something about perfumes or odors, whereas "Aromatic hydrocarbons" is quite specific.

Also, be aware that, at the moment, the word "Aromatics" is a redirect to "Hydrocarbons". If and when you create a fairly good "Aromatic hydrocarbons" article, then I will ask to have the current "Aromatics" redirect deleted.

I would caution you that, when you create the new "Aromatic hydrocarbons" article, make sure that you not only use material from your current university textbooks ... be sure to study a number of other books and online sources to get other perspectives as well.

I want to congratulate you for starting to contribute just a few days after joining us. Keep it up! Call on me if you need help with formatting or anything else. Milton Beychok 23:43, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

I just started the Aromatic hydrocarbons article for you. Actually, all our articles are "clusters" that include subpages. I also created these subpage for you: "Talk", "Related Articles" and "Bibliography". I left the "External Links" subpage for you to do, but it can wait until you have expanded the article. The first things you must do are:
  • Finish writing the first sentence of the main article. Then expand it to at least an introductory paragraph or two.
  • Go to the Talk subpage, click on the "Definition" tab, read the instructions and then delete them as it says you should. Do not delete the top line that reads <noinclude>{{Subpages}}</noinclude> !! Then write a brief one sentence definition of aromatic hydrocarbons that does not include the phrase "Aromatic hydrocarbons".
Then go back to the main article and go to work expanding the article. Have fun! Milton Beychok 00:33, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
