Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, our help system and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via Twitter. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forum is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any administrator for help, too. Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun! -- ZachPruckowski 19:36, 25 January 2007 (CST)

Re move locking on Main Page I agree absolutely, but would like to know how to do it. David Tribe 21:26, 10 February 2007 (CST)

Now that I knew it could be done I taught myself to do it David Tribe 21:31, 10 February 2007 (CST)

Deletion procedure

Hi, David. Can you give me some information about the Citizendium deletion procedure? I'm not very clear on how this is supposed to work.—Nat Krause 22:48, 13 February 2007 (CST)

There isn't a formal deletion process. If one believes that a page should be deleted, one can place template:speedydelete on it, post a request to have it deleted on Talk:Main Page, or otherwise bring the page to a constable's attention. The constable responding to the request will decide whether, in his/her discretion, the page should be deleted. David Ellis 22:58, 13 February 2007 (CST)

delete

David, do you want these templates deleted? I asked you to confirm yesterday - no answer. Robert Tito | Talk 18:34, 14 February 2007 (CST)

Yes, I would like Template:PROD and Template:Dated prod deleted, as both are templates for one of Wikipedia's deletion processes. When we develop a deletion process, I'm sure that we can do much better. David Ellis 18:39, 14 February 2007 (CST)

Thanks for the demo

Thanks for showing me the speedydelete-after-page-move-vandalism template in action at Neuropathic pain ON WHEELSS!!!. Retrospectively, it seems so simple:) At least I can get on and do something more about the problems that pop up. --Christo Muller (Talk) 01:54, 17 February 2007 (CST)

Are you certain about the monobook.js deletion? Robert Tito | Talk 14:32, 17 February 2007 (CST)

RNA interference

Are you saying the page is not protected? Matt Innis (Talk) 21:52, 18 February 2007 (CST)

Okay, I see, it was protected from moving but not editing, which made the tab say "unprotect" for me. Thanks for letting me know! If I can help you at all, just let me know. Matt Innis (Talk) 22:07, 18 February 2007 (CST)

Images

Hi David. Thanks for your contributions to CZ! Please do me a huge favor and review the images you recently uploaded. One or more lack licensing information or has been uploaded from Wikimedia Commons and there is a problem with the author using a pseudonym. Please see Help:Images#Copyrights and kindly remedy this situation. Thanks! - Stephen Ewen 01:12, 2 April 2007 (CDT)

Thank you for informing me about Help:Images#Copyrights. To the best of my knowledge, all of the images I have uploaded include licensing information, and have either been released under free licenses or are in the public domain. Therefore, I assume that your comment refers to some images which I have uploaded from the Wikimedia Commons, whose authors used pseudonyms. Neither Help:Images#Images_from_Wikipedia_or_Wikimedia_Commons nor Help:Images are linked from CZ:Policy Outline or CZ:Project_Home#Policy. Thus, in reviewing the Citizendium's policies, I was not informed of the policies stated in Help:Images#Images_from_Wikipedia_or_Wikimedia_Commons. A link to these policies was added to MediaWiki:Uploadtext on April 2 [2], after I had uploaded the images in question. Moreover, the provisions regarding "Images from Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons" were added to Help:Images on March 28, after I had uploaded all but one of the images that were submitted to the Wikimedia Commons using pseudonyms. I do not regard Help:Images#Images_from_Wikipedia_or_Wikimedia_Commons as a corollary of the real names requirement stated in The Citizendium's Statement of Fundamental Policies, since it is still permissible to submit the text of Wikipedia articles, which are largely of anonymous authorship, to the Citizendium, provided that one intends to work on and improve such articles here.
Nonetheless, if the requirements stated in Help:Images#Images_from_Wikipedia_or_Wikimedia_Commons are to be applied ex post facto to images that I uploaded prior to their enactment, I can create a list of images that I uploaded from the Wikimedia Commons whose authors cannot be identified by their real names, which would need to be deleted pursuant to this policy. Alternatively, if this policy applies only to images uploaded after its enactment, only Image:Vernal Falls Rainbow.jpg would need to be deleted. David Ellis 23:22, 2 April 2007 (CDT)

Fish and Grass

Came across your grass in Grass. Very nice. Moved on to using the Sawfish in Organism. Its rescued it from a boring look. Thanks. David Tribe 15:58, 14 April 2007 (CDT)

Images, images, images

David, may I ask what your purpose is for uploading dozens of images that do not appear in any articles? CZ server space is not for personal photo galleries. Stephen Ewen 19:17, 27 May 2007 (CDT)

Many of the photographs I have uploaded are used in articles; for example, see Military and Organism. Other images I am uploading will be usable in articles when the relevant articles are created or identified. For instance, although the Citizendium currently doesn't have an article concerning Autumn in which to place Image:Fall.jpg, it is reasonable to assume that we will have an article concerning such a significant subject. David Ellis 19:34, 27 May 2007 (CDT)
The same could be said for thousands and thousands of images, that does not mean we upload them now. And four images is hardly "many" out the more than three dozen orphaned images in your personal gallery. Please upload images only to place them into articles straightway. Stephen Ewen 19:48, 27 May 2007 (CDT)
I would note that your request is contrary to Larry Sanger's advice here, as well as finding no apparent support in Citizendium policy, and being contrary to common practice on the Citizendium -- see, for example, User:Robert Tito/gallery, User:Robert Tito/gallery 2, and CZ:Image Bank - The Gallery of Domestic Animals. Of course, if you disagree with Larry Sanger's statement "Now, don't get me wrong, you're free to upload as many pix as you like here (esp. if they're like these)" [3], you may discuss the matter with him. David Ellis 20:12, 27 May 2007 (CDT)
Furthermore, your implication that only four of the images I have uploaded are used in articles [4] is factually incorrect. In addition to Military and Organism, photographs that I have uploaded are also used in Grass, Welding, Astronomy, Army, and Stem cell. Image:Lightning over Oradea Romania 2.jpg was, until recently, used in lightning, and should probably be restored. David Ellis 21:11, 27 May 2007 (CDT)

Nice work in second generation antideprssant

Very useful; looking forward to more. Presumably, the dose-dependent receptor effects of venlafaxine go into its article. --Howard C. Berkowitz 20:27, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. While venlafaxine does produce dopamine reuptake inhibition at high doses, I'm uncertain whether it's enough for clinical significance -- whereas for a "classical" MAOI such as tranylcypromine, we pretty much know that increased dopamine levels are clinically significant, and produce a rather immediate mood elevation. Not that many psychiatrists are willing to prescribe a drug which demands such severe dietary restrictions to avoid a hypertensive crisis... David Ellis 21:10, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
