The NASDAQ, based in New York, is the largest electronic exchange in the USA, measured by the number of listed companies. The name is an acronym for National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations. The exchange was founded in 1971 by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) as a fully electronic trading platform. It is often referred to as the technology exchange.
