The Mega Drive is a video game console that was created by Sega and released in Japan on October 29th, 1988. It was later released in North America in 1989, and in Asia, Europe and Australia in 1990. Due to trademark disputes it was re-branded as the Genesis in North America. It was the 16-bit successor to the 8-bit Master System, and was followed by the release of the Sega Saturn in 1994.
