A dairy is a place where dairy products are prepared from raw milk.
Products prepared included:
- milk of various grades of butterfat;
- butter;
- cream, of various grades;
- whipping cream
- yogurt;
- sour cream;
- ice cream; and
- buttermilk.
Modern dairies pasteurize the milk they process.
While all female mammals are capable of lactation, the production of milk, for feeding their young, most milk processed by dairies is from cows. Milk from more exotic animals, such as goats, camels, and buffalos, is also sometimes consumed.
