Boys Club [r]: Boys Clubs in the U.S. began in 1860 when a group of women in Hartford, Conn organized a club to offer a positive alternative for boys who roamed the streets. A national federation of clubs was organized in Boston in 1906. Boys Clubs of America was chartered by Congress in 1956 and rechartered as Boys and Girls Clubs of America in 1990.
