Kevin M. Kelly

I am a biological anthropologist (BA, Anthropology, U Iowa; AM, PhD, Anthropology, U Illinois-Urbana) with broad training in the four fields of anthropology, a focus on the origins, manifestations & measurement of human variation and a variety of experimental, clinical & field experiences. During my career, I have worked as an independent researcher, project leader and team member at academic and for-profit institutions--building partnerships while successfully applying my anthropological training to issues in medicine and public health as well as anthropology.

I am a fellow of the American Anthropological Association, a fellow of the Human Biology Association, a member of the Society for Medical Anthropology, the Indo-Pacific Prehistory Association, the Melanesia Interest Group, the American Association of Physical Anthropologists, the Society for the Study of Human Biology and the National Association for the Practice of Anthropology, the Paleopathology Association as well as a past elected member of the Plastic Surgery Research Council (1994-1996) and the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association (1988-2006).

From 1983-1991, I was Research Assistant III and later, Assistant Research Scientist with the Cleft Palate Program Project of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, University of Iowa.

In 1991, I took a position as a Senior Research Scientist at the Humana Advance Surgical Institute (later, Supervisor of Clinical Research in the Dept of Clinical Research) at Medical City Dallas Hospital, Dallas Texas. While at Medical City Dallas Hospital, I was a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee (1991-1996), the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (1991-1996), the Institutional Review Committee (human subjects, 1994-1996) and the Heart and Lung Transplant Committee (1996).

In 1996, I took a position at the University of Iowa, this time in the then Dept of Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health (now, College of Public Health) as a Data Base Analyst for the Keokuk County Rural Health Study.

In 1998, I established “Kelly Webworks,” a sole proprietorship web hosting company focusing on small businesses and not-for-profits, specifically, a number of anthropologically- and health-related organizations.

Currently, I am Associate Research Scientist in the Dept of Occupational & Environmental Health as well as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Dept of Anthropology, an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Dept of Community & Behavioral Health and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Dept of Occupational & Environmental Health.

Welcome, new editor! We're very glad you've joined us. Here are pointers for a quick start. Also, when you get a chance, please read The Editor Role. You can look at Getting Started and our help system for other introductory pages. It is also important, for project-wide matters, to join the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list. Announcements are also available via Twitter. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forum is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any administrator for help, too. Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and thank you! We appreciate your willingness to share your expertise, and we hope to see your edits on Recent changes soon. --Larry Sanger 14:45, 14 December 2006 (CST)
