The Tampa Bay Rays are a Major League Baseball team based in St. Petersburg, Florida. The team was founded in 1998 as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays as an expansion team in the American League. After 2007, the word Devil was dropped from the team name. [1] [2] [3]

Championships

The team has never had a championship-winning season where they won the World Series. They were American League champions, but lost in the World Series, 2 times, in 2008 and 2020. [4]

Locations and Nicknames

Since the team's inception in 1998, they have been based in St Petersburg, Florida. They have played their home games at the Tropicana Field for their entire history. [5] [6]

They were known as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 1998 to 2007, and the Tampa Bay Rays from 2008 to the present. [7]
