Two are assigned to each company and four to each battalion. There are two versions, the questionably useful and the MCV-B. It is the MCV-B that can fire the mortar from the vehicle, while the MCV-A only tows it.
In addition to its primary weapon, an M121 120mm mortar, the vehicle carries an 81mm mortar at the battalion level and a 60mm mortar at the company level, both of which are fired from the dismounted position. With a crew of four, either the 120mm or the lighter mortar can be fired, not both.
