Gujarat is a coastal state in north-west India, capital Ahmadabad. Exploiting its geographical position, many Gujaratis have engaged in sea-going and other trade. The building of the Uganda Railway attracted many labourers from the province, and the majority stayed on as traders in Kenya and Uganda. Those who remained in Uganda were expelled by Idi Amin and ended up in the United Kingdom. In recent years the state has become imbued with Hindu fundamentalism, resulting in riots against Muslims, which some have referred to as genocide.[1][2] The government of the state continues with a fundamentalist party (March 2013).
