The Council for the National Interest (CNI) is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit interest group that lobbies in favor of U.S. policies toward the State of Israel, which are based on U.S. interests, as well as U.S. values. It is paired with the Council for the National Interest Foundation (CNIF), 501(c)3 non-profit organization "that provides information and analysis on the Middle East, its relationship to the United States, and about policy formation regarding this region. Its primary focus is on Israel-Palestine...It is CNI’s goal to restore a political environment in America in which voters and their elected officials are free from the undue influence and pressure of foreign countries and their partisans." [1]

In October 2010, Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, called it a group that has an important role "in creating policy and setting anti-Israel agendas but do[es] not organize a significant number of events."[ [2]
