Androgen insensitivity syndrome [r]: (AIS) Due to a mutation in the androgen receptor such that genetically male individuals (XY) do not fully respond to male hormones. In cases of complete insensitivity a male will look like a female, but sexual ambiguity can vary if there is a partial function of the androgen receptor. [e]
