Edward ("Ted") Sleigh Hewlett was born in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. He graduated from Penticton High School, and took teacher training in Victoria. After a number of years of teaching, and taking courses at the University of British Columbia, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree (with concentrations in history and English) from the University of British Columbia in 1964 and, after some additional years of teaching, and serving as an elementary-school vice-principal, obtained his Master of Arts (in history) from the same University in 1972. His master's thesis was entitled The Chilcotin Uprising: A Study of Indian-White Relations in Nineteenth Century British Columbia. His research for this is reflected in an article entitled "The Chilcotin Uprising of 1864," published in BC Studies, No. 19, Autumn 1973, and in a short article on "Klatsassin" in the Dictionary of Canadian Biography. found in online form at http://www.biographi.ca/EN/ShowBio.asp?BioId=38649 .
Edward S. Hewlett retired from teaching in 1994, and has since pursued a variety of interests, including writing, and--together with his wife--travel.
Edward Hewlett has a continuing interest in history and in societal developments. He is the editor of the "Life Issues" website (www.BCPTL.org ) and of SocialConservatives.ca (found at www.socialconservatives.ca ) . He is a member of the Surrey Historical Association.
