I am Simon Howard, a software engineer working in the United Kingdom.

I graduated from the University of Southampton in 2004 with a MEng. in Computer Engineering, Second Class Upper Division (2:1). Since that time I have been working for Xyratex, Inc. as a software engineer.

I am an active contributor to a number of open source projects, most run by myself. I have particular experience with the computer game Doom by Id Software; I have written two Doom source ports based upon the released source code, along with a number of other utility programs. In 2001, I started the Freedoom project, an open content project to create a complete Doom-based game. To date this has over 70 contributors. My FraggleScript scripting language has found its way into several popular source ports, including Doom Legacy and GZDoom.

I am interested in games programming in a more general sense, particularly multiplayer technology. My individual research project that I conducted while studying at university involved creation of a generic multiplayer engine that can be used as a foundation for building multiplayer games. I later released this as an open source project named Irmo.

I consider myself an experienced programmer, particularly proficient in C, Java and Ruby (as the main languages that I use). I maintain a library of common computer science algorithms for the C programming language.
