Template:Stub Microbial cell and population biology. The study of the cell biology of microorganisms, microbial interactions, signalling and evolutionary adaptations, multicellular-microorganisms and communities such as biofilms [1]
Although most microbes to not form specialized tissues like those found in plants and amimals, they may, never-the-less, cooperate one another and they have highly developed signalling systems to do this. One well studied type of signal system is called quorum sensing, which is the name given for intra-species cooperation in bacteria.
