Talk:Vietnamese Communist grand strategy
Special for the Controversies Write-a-thon
I'm moving this into mainspace especially for the Write-a-Thon, because I think there are a couple of controversies. In recent years, there has been a good deal of information, including face-to-face discussions, with North Vietnamese leaders, as well as some substantial U.S. declassification.
That the "see also" points to material still in my userspace is, I hope, something that may be tolerable within a Write-a-Thon. For those of you that have been watching Talk: Vietnam War, there has been a goal of having both an article about what is reasonably familiar to Westerners about "The War" — people flying around in UH-1 "Huey" helicopters and firing M16 rifles — and a broader context that puts this specific war in a framework of wars that came before and after. In my sandbox, I'm still working on the flow of those two articles, which to some extent is a split-up of the existing Vietnam War article, with some changes.
Controversy: My biggest unanswered question, and perhaps I should not be posing questions in the article, is what was the North Vietnamese goal in late 1965, at the Battle of the Ia Drang and in early 1966 at the Battle of Bong Son? Did they really intend to break through to Highway 19? If so, what did they plan to do next? Howard C. Berkowitz 03:02, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
