A centaur (right) tries to kidnap Hippodamia (centre) during her wedding to Pirithous (left), but Pirithous and Theseus (right) attack him. Detail from an Apulian red-figure calyx-krater, ca. 350-340 BC., attributed to the Laodamia Painter.
