The Euro 2008 football tournament was an edition of the European Nations Championship. It began on Saturday, 7 June 2008 and ended with the final on Sunday, 29 June 2008. It was co-hosted by Austria and Switzerland and comprised 16 teams who had successfully qualified through the Euro 2008 Qualifying Tournament. The 2008 tournament was won by Spain, defeating Germany 1–0 in the final.
The European Nations Championship was first held in 1960, and is one of the regional tournaments held every four years that are organised by FIFA. Similar competitions in other regions of the world are the Copa America in South America, the Asian Cup throughout Asia and the African Cup of Nations in Africa.
