Peter Capaldi (born 14th April, 1958) is a Scottish actor, screenwriter and award-winning director. He is known to television audiences for a variety of roles, particularly Malcolm Tucker in the BBC political comedy The Thick of It (2005-2012), partly because of his character's propensity for verbal profanity.
In 1993, Capaldi wrote and directed Franz Kafka's It's a Wonderful Life, a short film which won an Academy Award and a BAFTA. He reprised his role as Malcolm Tucker for the spin-off film In the Loop in 2012.
In 2013, Capaldi was announced as the twelfth actor to take on the lead role in the television series Doctor Who.[1] Capaldi is himself a dedicated fan of the programme, and as a teenager sought to run an official fan club for the series.[2] He had already appeared in the series in 2008, playing a different character, and as another in a spin-off series, Torchwood.
