Hi guys, you might want to improve your reference list pretty quickly, make sure you enter them in the Bibliography page, and also make sure to pick references from scientific, peer-reviewed journals. Sophie and Lucy, I can see you did some article seach, which is good, but some of your references do not belong to such journals, or have a defective link. Also, please enter the ref with authors'names, title, journal, date, etc, plus a short summary of the article, as shown in the following example [1]

I've edited the description of the parabiosis experiments - it's important to keep in mind that these were performed before any knowledge of leptin.

Depth -You need to go deeper than this in your reading, and be very careful of details. For example (and I've edited your text to correct this) the POMC cells are in the arcuate nucleus (not the VMN), and they project to the PVN - the PVN does not contain POMC cells. The arcuate neurones are the primary target of leptin. Don't write casually in a way that doesn't make this clear. The ob/ob mouse is technically not a knockout mouse - it wasn't a transgenic mouse, but an inbred strain. You've talked about leptin but what about other products of adipocytes? You haven't gone beyond 3rd year level here. Leptin crosses the blood brain barrier, but how it does so is far from clear - it seems likely that it's actively transported in at the choroid plexus, but might access directly at the arcuate nucleus. What other relevant targets are there?

Breadth need to put this in a broader context - can do this in any of many ways - what pathways are downstream of leptin's actions? How does this hypotheseis dirffer from/relate to other hypotheses??Gareth Leng 17:57, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
