Different meaning than genetic abnormality?
In Peripheral nerve myelin protein 22, I mention some genetic diseases apparently associated to a deletion or duplication of a gene on the same chromosome. Is this duplication a different idea? --Howard C. Berkowitz 16:53, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
- Such duplications are included in the concept, deletions not. --Daniel Mietchen 19:27, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. I wasn't sure if your definition implied that the duplication had to be on different chromosomes. Howard C. Berkowitz 19:31, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
Antibiotic resistance plasmids
Again, is this part of the same concept, or a different one, where one bacterial species "learns" to resist an antibiotic by receiving genetic material from an unrelated organism in the same environment? --Howard C. Berkowitz 16:56, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
- This is horizontal gene transfer. --Daniel Mietchen 19:27, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
