Hippocrates was the Ancient Greek physician who has come to be acknowledged as the Father of Medicine, and who gave his name to the Hippocratic Oath.
Associated with the medical school on the island of Cos in the fourth to the fifth centuries BCE, he advocated a basic approach to the diagnosis and treatment of disease that still has applications in modern medicine: "The code of conduct for doctors outlined in the Hippocratic Oath, a vow commonly taken by modern doctors", remains an ethical guideline in medicine.[1]
