Maybe not strictly what this page is for, but I just want to remind myself to check that July 1915 was the peak month for enlistments in Australia. The initial media commentary, especially from Elliot Ashmead-Bartlett and later C.W. Bean, was very positive and painted a picture of the Australians and New Zealanders as a formidable fighting force. This inspired Australians to join up. When later reports highlighted the actual nature of fighting and living conditions, enlistments fell sharply. This needs checking, authoritative sources to back it up. [[User:David H. This is a subsection from the entry on Australia, which I quickly realised was far too long in that context.
It's far too short here, and so I've labelled it a stub. It needs much more fleshing out. I'd like to add in-depth material on battles, politics on the home front, and so on, but I think this is a reasonable summary to build on.
Have at it, Aussie history buffs! David H. Barrett
