|Description= Portrait of [[Little Crow]], chief of the Mdewakanton Dakota in the mid-nineteenth century.  Sketch made by Frank Blackwell Mayer in 1951.  Mayer traveled to the frontier to record meetings between representatives of the United States and the Dakota, who were ceding large portions of their territory to the U.S.  Mayer's sketches are currently held by the Newberry Library in Chicago.  This photo was also published in ''With pen and pencil on the frontier in 1851; the diary and sketches of Frank Blackwell Mayer'', edited with an introduction and notes by Bertha L. Heilbron, 1932.
