Arik Einstain (Hebrew: אריק איינשטיין) (born January 3, 1939) is an Israeli singer and movie actor, who enjoyed continued success in Israel from the early 1960s onward.
Einstein, son of a theatre actor, was a member of a Israeli Defence Army (IDF) singing band and later on a embarked on a very successful career as a singer, a member in several singing groups, theatre and movies. His 1968 Album, "Mazal Gdi" (Hebrew: מזל גדי, sign of Capricorn) marked the first time Einstein collaborated with rock composer Shalom Hanoch, and a turn to music much more heavily influenced by 1960s music, and especially the Beatles. Einstein was at the time also a member of a singing trio called "haḤalonot haGvohim" (Hebrew: החלונות הגבוהים, The High Windows), which was similarly bent.
During the late 1960s and early 1970s Einstein recorded several albums which were more rock-ish, and also participated in a hugely successful humour/songs TV show and several movies. Einstein enjoyed a huge success in those years, not least because of his ability to select up and coming composing talents to collaborate with him on his albums.
During the late 1970s, 1980s and later on Einstein continued to record Albums, mostly with composers Micky Gavrielov and Yoni Rechter, albums of old Israeli songs and albums of children songs. His most successful efforts in those years were several for video productions.
