A term for a future monarch, often the son of a king and queen, who is a member of the nobility and will become king in a process of succession after the death of the king. It's from the Latin princeps, first used by Augustus Caesar to mean first citizen. The feminine equivalent is princess.
Member of a monarch's family, typically in the line of succession to the throne; also the title of one who rules, or has ruled (feminine: princess).
