The {{subpages}} template is designed to be used within article clusters and their related pages.
However, it cannot function on sub-subpage talk pages..
Please continue discussion at Talk:Rock music, or return to the Rock bands subsubpage.

This page should be changed to be alphabetical, because no one asks, "Gee, what bands came out in 1976", but many people would like to no when "My Favorite Band" came out and where they originated. This list should also include the names of band members and their major role (instrument or voice) in the band. Of course, that might not be needed if someone were to make separate pages for each of the bands listed. David E. Volk 14:11, 3 August 2007 (CDT)

I created this catalog long time ago and at that time I was told somewhere that I should make it chronological. Your comment does make sense though since few people now take chronology of rock bands seriously. Maybe we should wait for a music editor to show up (all other music article's format isn't well determined either). We once had a music editor, but he left. Yi Zhe Wu 14:15, 3 August 2007 (CDT)

Belongs under rock music/Catalogs/Bands or rock and roll/Catalogs/Bands. See CZ:Subpages if you haven't already.

Actually, what we need is to have a table that allows us to sort on columns, so we can search based on year or name. I've seen such tables on Wikipedia. And actually what we really need is a kick-ass extension for MediaWiki that allows this information to be put into a form, and spits out a beautifully-formatted table. That's in the conceptual stage right now--we'll be creating multiple extensions for different kinds of data. --Larry Sanger 10:52, 7 October 2007 (CDT)

Am I stepping on someone's toes? I wanted to add The Doors, because I lived in Los Angeles (haha). The date Summer 1965 comes from, for example, Stephen Davis, Jim Morrison: Life, Death, Legend (London: Ebury Press, 2005), p. 76-77. Sorry if I did a wrong thing.Jeffrey Scott Bernstein 11:17, 7 October 2007 (CDT)

No, the Doors is actually a famous rock band and some of my friends indeed like it. I think I just forgot to add it here. Thanks Mr. Bernstein. Yi Zhe Wu 11:28, 7 October 2007 (CDT)

Sorting

It does not work here (see below) but you should check out the wikimedia page that explains all the sorting options that are available if you have the right software. Chris Day (talk) 12:09, 7 October 2007 (CDT)

Band Year Origin Status
Beatles 1957 England defunct
Beach Boys 1961 United States active
Kaveret 1973 Israel defunct
: The sorting of this little table works for me. If we are going to convert to this type of table ( I think so), we should do it quickly before the list gets to be hundreds long. David E. Volk 11:01, 1 January 2008 (CST)
