In the late 1990s, I was the webmaster and promoter of Mari Holden's official web site at mariholden.com. Currently, I have no connection, professional or otherwise with Ms. Holden.
In 1996, the U.S. Olympic Trials for women consisted of a linked set of 5 races - 2 time trials, and 3 road races. Overall standings in the Trials was determined by a point system based on performance in all of the events. Holden won both of the Time Trials, but did not finish high enough in the Road Race phase of the competition to qualify for the Olympics that year.

1996 Olympic Trials

In 1996, the U.S. Olympic Trials for women consisted of a linked set of 5 races - 2 time trials, and 3 road races. Overall standings in the Trials was determined by a point system based on performance in all of the events. Holden won both of the Time Trials, but did not finish high enough in the Road Race phase of the competition to qualify for the Olympics that year.
