`The '''Auckland tram system''' operated passenger vehicles, on rails, from 1884 to 1956.<ref name=MotatTramway/>  The first vehicles were horsedrawn.  Vehicles powered by electricity were introduced in 1904.  The tram system was shutdown in 1956.<ref name=greaterauckland2017-10-19/>
