Controversy
Breaking electoral rules in 2020 General Election
During the 2020 General Election, Ong Ye Kung uploaded a Facebook video featuring a conversation with a young boy about amenities in Sembawang GRC. The Elections Department deemed the video to be in violation of electoral rules due to involving primary/secondary school students taking part in the election activities, leading to its removal.[1]
Police report was filed against Ong over the video. No further action will be taken against Ong by the police. Later the Elections Department Singapore (ELD) and the police said in a joint response to media that the Assistant Returning Officer had issued an advisory to Ong to “remind him to comply with the law in relation to all campaigning activities”.[2]
Dinner photo with Su Haijin
Around 2020, Ong Ye Kung, along with other PAP's members, Ng Chee Meng and Chee Hong Tat attended dinners with Su Haijin, a criminal and Fujian Gang member. The 3 PAP's members took photograph with Su Haijin.[3]
Both Ong Ye Kung and Chee Hong Tat claimed that they do not know convicted money launderer Su Haijin personally and do not have any contact with him. Both of them had their press secretaries issued a joint press statement on 6 May 2025.[4]
