John D. Negroponte (1939-) is on the faculty of Yale University, teaching Studies in Grand Strategy. He was a career U.S. Foreign Service Officer who worked for a number of administrations going back to the Vietnam War. While he is not generally identified with a particular ideology, he has been controversial, especially with respect to human rights when he was the U.S. Ambassador to Honduras.

Most recently, he was Deputy Secretary of State in the George W. Bush Administration, after serving as Director of National Intelligence, U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
